This beautifully handcrafted handbag is made from hemp, an environmentally friendly and natural material, and leather. The handbags are made by local women in Nepal who receive a fair wage and working conditions. The handbags are a lovely natural cream colour, which is 100% hemp, and a natural brown leather. The bag has 4 zipped pockets in total plus the main zipped compartment. There is a large zipped pocket on the front of the bag and 2 overlying smaller zipped pockets (still of very good size), there is also a large zipped pocket on the back of the bag. The strap of the bag is adjustable length.
Initially the hemp thread is created which is then washed 15 times before being weaved into a fabric using our traditional 100 year old loom machine which doesn’t use electricity. This is then washed another 15 times before it can be made into the handbag. The leather is natural Nepali leather with no chemicals used.
Local Women’s Handicrafts is a fair trade textiles and handicrafts collective based in Kathmandu. All of our products are handmade and ethically produced, providing fair wages and safe working conditions for the local Nepalese women who make them. We seek to empower and educate disadvantaged women by providing them with training and skills to support themselves.
Our organization is working hard to eradicate sweatshop problems as soon as possible. Everyday, lives are lost due to this unnecessary suffering.
By buying our products, you’re not just purchasing beautiful, handmade, and unique items, you’re also helping us educate women with skills that will allow them to support themselves and work in a happy and healthy environment.
Because our products are handmade from ecological materials, we recommend you wash them in cold to tepid water and allow them to dry flat. All our products are handcrafted with a love for craft and tradition, which makes each product truly unique. The products may differ slightly from the products from the shown images with regard to color, size or pattern.
